Fribourg Cantonal Bank (FCB) is entering a period of transition following the resignation of Marylaure Baechler, Head of Retail Banking and member of the Executive Board. Her departure comes just over a year after joining the bank from Credit Suisse, prompting FCB to launch a search for new leadership within its core retail business.
Leadership Change After a Short Tenure
FCB confirmed that Baechler will leave her role effective 30 November. A successor has not yet been named, and the bank’s Executive Board will oversee an interim leadership arrangement to ensure operational continuity. Details about the future structure of the Retail Banking division are expected to be communicated in the coming weeks.
Baechler joined the bank in autumn 2024, taking over the Retail Banking division in May 2025. Her move followed a long career at Credit Suisse, where she spent nearly 22 years in various senior positions in retail banking across Fribourg and Lausanne. Her leadership at FCB focused on strengthening customer engagement and modernizing branch-level services.
Acknowledgment from the Bank’s Leadership
In an official statement, FCB’s Board of Directors and Executive Board expressed their gratitude for Baechler’s contribution to the division, noting her commitment, industry expertise, and role in advancing the bank’s retail strategy. The bank also wished her success in her future professional endeavors.
Transition Period Ahead
The Retail Banking division remains a critical pillar for Fribourg Cantonal Bank, serving a broad base of private customers and local businesses across the canton. As FCB navigates this transition, the Executive Board is expected to maintain strategic momentum while preparing the ground for a new division head.
The bank has not disclosed Baechler’s future career plans.
