BNP Paribas has upgraded Boeing to Outperform, joining JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs in expressing growing confidence that the aerospace manufacturer’s operational turnaround is gaining momentum. The analyst upgrades followed Boeing’s stronger-than-expected second-quarter performance, which featured positive free cash flow, accelerating aircraft deliveries, and a record order backlog. While technical indicators suggest the shares have entered overbought territory after their recent rally, analysts believe improving production, stronger cash generation, and future certification milestones continue to support a constructive long-term investment outlook.
Boeing reported second-quarter revenue of $24.6 billion, representing an 8% year-over-year increase, while substantially narrowing its net loss compared with the prior year.
The company delivered 171 commercial aircraft, its strongest quarterly delivery performance since 2018, reflecting continued progress in restoring production capacity across key aircraft programs.
Perhaps most importantly for investors, Boeing generated $631 million in free cash flow, reversing several consecutive quarters of cash burn and reinforcing management’s confidence in achieving its full-year free cash flow guidance of $1 billion to $3 billion.
The company’s order backlog also reached a record $715 billion, providing long-term revenue visibility and supporting production plans for both commercial and defense operations.
BNP Paribas upgraded Boeing from Underperform to Outperform, citing improving operational execution and stronger production trends.
JPMorgan simultaneously increased its price target to $290 from $270, reflecting expectations that expanding 737 MAX production and improved delivery rates will accelerate free cash flow generation over the coming years.
Goldman Sachs maintained its bullish stance with a $260 price target, while RBC continued to recommend the shares despite modestly reducing its valuation to reflect more conservative assumptions regarding 777X certification timing.
Collectively, Wall Street’s recent revisions signal increasing confidence that Boeing’s financial recovery is becoming more sustainable.
Management’s turnaround strategy remains focused on stabilizing manufacturing quality while gradually increasing production across its commercial aircraft programs.
Boeing continues ramping production of the 737 MAX while preparing to expand manufacturing capacity through its North Everett facility. Higher production rates are expected to support stronger customer deliveries and improve operating leverage as fixed manufacturing costs are spread across larger production volumes.
The Federal Aviation Administration’s continued progress toward allowing Boeing greater self-certification authority for certain aircraft programs has also improved investor sentiment regarding future production efficiency.
Despite the improving operational picture, analysts broadly agree that certification of the 777X remains Boeing’s most important near-term milestone.
Successful certification would allow Boeing to begin deliveries of its next-generation wide-body aircraft, opening a significant new revenue stream while demonstrating the company’s ability to satisfy strengthened regulatory requirements introduced following the 737 MAX certification crisis.
Although first customer deliveries are currently anticipated during 2027, investors continue monitoring regulatory developments closely, as certification timing could materially influence future cash flow and earnings expectations.
Following its recent rally, Boeing shares have approached an important technical resistance zone near $234, where a previous double-top pattern has formed.
Momentum indicators, including a Relative Strength Index near 75, suggest the stock has entered overbought territory after its rapid advance.
Analysts note that maintaining support around $225 remains important for preserving the current bullish trend. A decisive move above the $234 resistance level could strengthen positive technical momentum and potentially open the way toward higher price objectives.
BNP Paribas’ upgrade reflects growing confidence that Boeing’s operational recovery is translating into stronger financial performance. Rising aircraft deliveries, positive free cash flow, expanding production capacity, and a record backlog provide tangible evidence that management’s turnaround strategy is gaining traction. While technical indicators suggest short-term consolidation remains possible, successful 777X certification and continued execution on production targets will likely remain the primary drivers of Boeing’s longer-term valuation.
