JPMorgan Chase is maintaining strong momentum across its institutional businesses, with Co-President Doug Petno forecasting mid-to-high-teens growth in both investment-banking fees and markets revenue for the third quarter. The update reinforces the strength of JPMorgan’s client franchise at a time when corporate activity and market participation remain supportive of major financial institutions.
Petno pointed to healthy corporate confidence and a strong deal pipeline as key factors behind the bank’s outlook. Merger activity remains active, giving JPMorgan continued opportunities across advisory and capital-markets businesses.
The significance for the bank is the breadth of the pipeline. Investment-banking revenue is highly sensitive to corporate confidence, financing conditions and the willingness of companies to pursue strategic transactions. JPMorgan’s assessment indicates that clients continue to engage with the bank on meaningful corporate activity despite a more complex macroeconomic environment.
JPMorgan also expects its markets franchise to deliver another solid quarter. The bank’s ability to generate revenue across trading and investment banking provides an important layer of diversification within its institutional platform.
Second-quarter investment-banking fees had already increased 30%, while markets revenue rose 35%. Against those strong comparisons, another mid-to-high-teens expansion would still represent substantial activity across the franchise. The key distinction is that JPMorgan is maintaining growth momentum even as it compares against an unusually strong prior period.
For sophisticated wealth holders, the more important issue is the composition of JPMorgan’s earnings engine. The bank is not dependent on a single source of revenue. When lending conditions become less supportive, institutional businesses such as advisory, underwriting and trading can provide additional revenue capacity.
This diversification is particularly relevant for a global banking relationship. JPMorgan’s corporate and institutional platform connects financing, capital markets and market-making capabilities, allowing the bank to serve clients across multiple stages of the economic and transaction cycle.
Petno also emphasized that Jamie Dimon remains deeply involved in running JPMorgan following the promotion of Petno and Troy Rohrbaugh to co-presidents. The leadership structure therefore combines expanded executive responsibilities with continued involvement from Dimon.
For clients evaluating a global banking institution, the latest update points to a franchise operating with strong institutional activity, a substantial transaction pipeline and multiple revenue channels. The next measure will be whether this momentum remains durable as market conditions and corporate financing decisions evolve through 2026.
