UBS is maintaining a constructive position on Pinterest despite signs of slowing revenue momentum, illustrating the distinction between near-term operating performance and longer-term valuation potential. Following the company’s third-quarter revenue miss, the Swiss investment bank retained its Buy recommendation and reduced its price target only slightly, from $33 to $32. The assessment suggests that UBS continues to see meaningful value in the platform, while acknowledging that a recovery in commercial growth will be necessary to support the expected share-price appreciation.
The decision to retain the Buy rating is significant because Pinterest’s latest results revealed a deterioration in revenue growth. Annual revenue expansion slowed to 12% from 18%, while the company’s fourth-quarter guidance points to growth of between 8% and 12%.
UBS nevertheless made only a limited adjustment to its valuation, reducing the target by one dollar. Its revised $32 price objective remains approximately 61% above the share price cited in the report. This indicates that the bank’s investment thesis has not fundamentally changed following the quarterly disappointment.
However, the target should be understood as an analyst valuation rather than a guaranteed outcome. The distance between the current share price and UBS’s objective reflects the potential return implied by its assumptions, not certainty that the market will recognize that value within a particular timeframe.
One of the factors affecting Pinterest’s recent performance is the impact of new European rules on cross-border sellers. According to the report, these changes have prompted some sellers to reduce their activity, creating pressure on the platform’s revenue growth.
This development matters because Pinterest’s commercial performance depends on converting user engagement into advertising and merchant activity. Reduced participation from cross-border sellers can constrain monetization even when the platform maintains its broader audience and commercial relevance.
The fourth-quarter revenue outlook of 8% to 12% indicates that the slowdown may persist in the near term. For UBS’s valuation thesis to gain stronger support, Pinterest will need to demonstrate that the disruption is manageable and that revenue growth can regain momentum.
The valuation argument provides the foundation for UBS’s continued optimism. Its $32 target implies approximately 14 times expected earnings over the next 12 months, compared with Pinterest’s five-year average multiple of approximately 24 times.
This difference suggests that the bank considers the current valuation comparatively conservative. However, historical multiples are not automatically restored: sustained earnings growth, operating performance, and investor confidence remain important conditions.
Pinterest’s expected 2027 outlook in early February will provide investors with a clearer indication of whether the company can stabilize growth and strengthen its monetization model. For UBS, the central question is whether the current earnings valuation adequately reflects the company’s longer-term potential. The bank’s maintained Buy rating signals confidence in that possibility, but the investment case will ultimately depend on measurable revenue recovery and execution.
