Key Takeaways:

  • BNP Paribas Bank Polska generated PLN 689 million in net profit in Q3 2026, an increase of 14.9% quarter-on-quarter, while banking revenue rose 6.7% year-on-year to approximately PLN 2.1 billion.
  • Stronger net interest income, improving lending volumes and disciplined deposit pricing supported profitability. Gross loans increased 9.3% year-on-year, while customer deposits grew 9.9%.
  • The bank maintained its non-performing loan ratio at 2.6% and reported a quarterly cost of risk of 22 basis points. Its next challenge is sustaining growth while managing operating expenses, regulatory costs and legacy Swiss-franc mortgage exposures.

BNP Paribas Bank Polska S.A. (WSE: BNP; FRA: 82MA) delivered a stronger third-quarter performance, reflecting improved interest income, expanding lending activity and continued customer acquisition. The bank reported PLN 689 million in net profit for Q3 2026, up 14.9% from the previous quarter, while banking revenue increased 6.7% year-on-year. The results provide evidence of progress under its Accelerate 2030 strategy, with particular emphasis on institutional banking, retail relationships and operating efficiency.

Net Interest Income Remains the Primary Earnings Driver

Banking revenue reached approximately PLN 2.09 billion, increasing 3% quarter-on-quarter and 6.7% year-on-year. Net interest income contributed PLN 1.56 billion, rising 7.1% from the same period last year. Management highlighted a 12-basis-point improvement in net interest margin, supported by active management of the bank’s funding and deposit structure. Interest income represented approximately 75% of total revenue, underscoring the importance of balance-sheet management to earnings performance.

Net profit, however, remained broadly flat year-on-year, declining 0.9% from PLN 695.5 million. This distinction matters: the quarterly recovery is encouraging, but it does not yet establish a sustained acceleration in annual profitability. Return on tangible equity reached 15%, improving by two percentage points quarter-on-quarter, although the nine-month measure remained below its year-earlier level.

Lending and Customer Acquisition Expand the Bank’s Franchise

Gross loans increased 9.3% year-on-year to PLN 99.9 billion. Institutional lending was particularly strong, growing 10.8% annually, with corporate lending expanding 14.1%. SME lending also recovered, while management reported market-share gains in institutional banking. These developments strengthen the bank’s position in serving Polish businesses and corporate clients.

Deposits reached PLN 140.7 billion, up 9.9% year-on-year, with growth supported primarily by retail customers and disciplined pricing. The bank also added 204,000 net new retail customers during the first nine months, progressing toward its strategic ambition of one million additional customers by 2030. Improvements in mobile onboarding and integration with Poland’s mObywatel digital identity platform have supported customer acquisition. Growth in current accounts also provides an opportunity to strengthen lower-cost funding relationships.

Cost Efficiency and Credit Quality Remain Strategic Priorities

Operating expenses and depreciation reached PLN 836 million in Q3, remaining broadly stable compared with the previous quarter. The reported nine-month cost-to-income ratio was 44.8%, improving to 40.9% excluding Bank Guarantee Fund costs. This distinction is important when assessing underlying operating efficiency, as regulatory expenses continue to influence the headline measure.

Credit quality remained resilient. The impaired-loan ratio held at 2.6%, while quarterly credit risk costs were 22 basis points. Legal expenses associated with Swiss-franc mortgage litigation amounted to PLN 53 million, with new lawsuits declining during the quarter. The bank also reported PLN 6 billion in new sustainable financing production after three quarters, progressing toward its PLN 25 billion commitment.

Looking ahead, BNP Paribas Bank Polska must demonstrate that stronger lending, customer acquisition and deposit growth can translate into durable earnings improvement. Investors should monitor net interest margins, funding costs, operating expenses and the remaining legal exposure from CHF mortgages. Its capital position, including a 14.67% Tier 1 ratio, provides an important measure of financial capacity as the bank advances its strategy. For internationally diversified wealth holders, the results illustrate how a major Polish banking institution is combining domestic commercial growth with disciplined balance-sheet management.
