NAND is a type of non-volatile flash memory that retains data even when a device is powered off. Its role is becoming increasingly important as artificial intelligence infrastructure expands, with large data centers requiring substantial storage capacity alongside computing power.

The source material estimates NAND demand could grow at approximately 5.3% annually, while supply constraints could push NAND prices significantly higher during the second half of 2026. For Sandisk, this combination creates a potentially powerful environment for pricing and profitability.

Multiyear Agreements Could Change the Memory Cycle

The more important element of the investment case may be Sandisk’s customer relationships.

Semiconductor memory has historically been highly cyclical. Periods of strong demand can encourage manufacturers to expand capacity, eventually producing excess supply and placing pressure on prices and margins.

Sandisk’s reported multiyear agreements with eight major customers could reduce some of that volatility. The contracts reportedly represent approximately $42 billion and include pricing provisions.

Sandisk’s latest results underline the scale of the recovery. For its fiscal fourth quarter ended July 3, the company reported revenue of $8.97 billion, up 51% from the previous quarter. Net income reached $6.9 billion, representing a 91% increase.

For fiscal 2026, revenue increased 175% to $20.25 billion, while net income rose 797% to $11.4 billion.

Management also expects quarterly revenue of approximately $10.3 billion, with gross margin projected between 83% and 85%.

These figures help explain the dramatic increase in Sandisk’s valuation. The challenge is determining whether such performance reflects a temporary peak in the memory cycle or a more durable change driven by structural AI demand.

AI Spending Will Determine the Next Phase

The broader investment thesis ultimately depends on the continued expansion of AI infrastructure.
