BBVA is reorganising its wealth-management activities under a single Global Wealth division, bringing premium, private banking and ultra-high-net-worth services into a more consistent international framework. The move is designed to strengthen the bank’s service model for affluent clients and wealthy families while improving coordination across its international wealth platform.
Beginning in October, BBVA will align its Premium, Private Banking and UHN client segments under the Global Wealth brand. The consolidation replaces the varied designations previously used across individual markets, although the bank will retain certain established regional names.
Spain will continue using UHN Patrimonios for its highest-tier clients, while Mexico will retain Premium Patrimonial and Colombia will maintain its Premium and Premium Plus classifications. This approach allows BBVA to establish a common global framework without completely removing local market identities.
The new operating structure places relationship managers and private bankers at the center of client coverage, supported by internal product specialists. The Premium segment is intended for clients building wealth who require support with financial decisions, while Private Banking focuses on clients seeking to expand and consolidate established wealth through dedicated advisers and investment specialists.
At the UHN level, BBVA is targeting more complex requirements, including estate planning, governance, international structures and legacy management. Domestic teams will also provide tailored solutions spanning credit, cards, asset planning and digital channels.
For clients with assets, businesses or family arrangements spanning multiple jurisdictions, BBVA plans to use its existing operational hubs in Spain, the United States and Switzerland to provide advisory services and portfolio consolidation. This gives the unified platform an important cross-border dimension, particularly for internationally connected wealthy families.
The Global Wealth division will also incorporate access to BBVA’s corporate and investment banking capabilities, a unified global investment methodology and its open-architecture fund platform, Quality Funds. The combination is intended to connect wealth-management advice with broader banking and investment resources.
For BBVA, the strategic significance of Global Wealth extends beyond branding. The structure creates a more integrated service framework across client segments while retaining flexibility for local markets. This could help the bank coordinate advice, investment solutions and cross-border capabilities more effectively as client needs become increasingly international.
As Global Wealth develops, the key test will be whether the unified model translates into a more consistent client experience without weakening the local expertise and established relationships that remain important to BBVA’s wealth franchise. The strategy reflects a broader effort to position wealth management as an integrated global business rather than a collection of market-specific offerings.
