BNP Paribas has reached its 13% Common Equity Tier 1 capital target 18 months earlier than planned, according to an October 7 information note from the bank. The milestone comes as BNP Paribas prepares its next strategic cycle and works toward the presentation of its 2030 strategic plan on February 2, 2027.
Reaching the capital objective ahead of schedule provides BNP Paribas with an important balance-sheet milestone as management prepares to outline its longer-term priorities. For global investors, the achievement is relevant not only as a measure of capital strength but also because it can influence the bank’s flexibility around future growth, investment and shareholder distributions.
BNP Paribas also reiterated its objective of keeping its 2026 cost of risk below 40 basis points. The bank expects third-quarter restructuring charges to include the remaining portion of a planned EUR 800 million charge for the year, including EUR 400 million associated with the integration of AXA Investment Managers.
BNP Paribas shares were quoted at EUR 89.63 on Lang & Schwarz at 12:02 p.m. CEST on October 8, 2026, down 2.88% from the prior reference price of EUR 92.29.
The move comes ahead of the bank’s scheduled third-quarter earnings release on October 28. The upcoming results will provide investors with an opportunity to assess earnings performance, credit costs and progress against the bank’s broader financial objectives.
The source reports a 52-week trading range of EUR 65.12 to EUR 113.82 and a market capitalization of approximately EUR 98.3 billion. The current indication remains well above the yearly low but below the 52-week high.
Recent analyst revisions provide a more cautious counterpoint to BNP Paribas’ progress on capital. Kepler Cheuvreux lowered its price target from EUR 110.30 to EUR 96.50 on October 5 while maintaining a Hold rating.
Alphavalue also reduced its target, moving from EUR 122 to EUR 101 while maintaining an Accumulate rating, according to the source.
The revisions do not necessarily challenge BNP Paribas’ capital position. Instead, they indicate that analysts have become more conservative in their assessment of the valuation and earnings outlook, even as the bank reaches an important balance-sheet objective ahead of schedule.
BNP Paribas reported first-half 2026 revenue of EUR 28.147 billion and net income of EUR 7.562 billion, according to the source. These results provide the operating backdrop for the bank’s capital and strategic objectives.
The combination of capital strength, earnings generation and controlled credit risk will be particularly important as BNP Paribas approaches the publication of its 2030 strategy. Investors will likely assess whether the early achievement of the CET1 target creates additional flexibility without compromising profitability or growth ambitions.
BNP Paribas enters the final stages of 2026 with its 13% CET1 target already achieved, providing a stronger capital foundation ahead of the bank’s 2030 strategic plan. At the same time, the recent decline in the share price and downward analyst target revisions indicate that investors continue to scrutinize valuation and earnings prospects.
For global wealth investors, the October 28 results and February 2027 strategic update will be important checkpoints. The central question is how BNP Paribas converts its stronger capital position into sustainable earnings, disciplined growth and long-term shareholder value while maintaining its cost-of-risk objectives.
