DZ Bank analyst Philipp Dr. Häßler has maintained a Buy rating on BNP Paribas, according to a research note. The decision preserves the analyst’s existing positive recommendation on the French banking group’s shares.
The note does not provide a revised price target, detailed valuation assumptions or specific reasons behind the maintained rating. Nevertheless, the reaffirmation keeps BNP Paribas within DZ Bank’s positively rated banking coverage.
For investors assessing European financial institutions, analyst recommendations provide one component of the broader investment picture. They should be considered alongside earnings performance, capital strength, asset quality, funding conditions and the bank’s ability to sustain profitability across different business cycles.
BNP Paribas is France’s largest banking group, with operations spanning retail banking, finance and investment banking, institutional and private management, and insurance.
Retail banking represents 50.8% of net banking product. Its activities include operations in France, Belgium and Italy, accounting for 24.2%, 14% and 10.1% of net banking product, respectively. The group’s international operations and specialized financial services also contribute significantly, including consumer lending, real estate credit, leasing, vehicle fleet management and computer equipment leasing.
Finance and investment banking account for 36.1% of net banking product. This segment includes advisory and capital markets activities, representing 83.2% of the segment’s net banking product, alongside financing activities accounting for the remaining 16.8%. Its services cover mergers and acquisitions, equity, interest-rate and foreign-exchange markets, as well as acquisition financing, project financing and commodity-related transactions.
Institutional and private management and insurance contribute 13.1%. This business includes asset management, private banking, real estate and online brokerage services, insurance and securities services. BNP Paribas is identified as France’s leading private banking institution and Europe’s leading provider of retained securities services.
The breadth of these activities provides the group with multiple sources of revenue across retail customers, corporations, institutional investors and private wealth clients.
BNP Paribas reported €1,075.6 billion in current deposits and €897.3 billion in current loans at the end of 2025.
These figures illustrate the scale of its deposit and lending operations and the importance of its retail and commercial banking franchise within the broader group.
The difference between deposits and loans also provides a useful reference point when examining the bank’s funding structure. However, these figures alone do not establish its liquidity position, funding costs or overall balance-sheet resilience. Those assessments require additional information on asset composition, maturity profiles, liquidity reserves and regulatory capital.
BNP Paribas generates the majority of its net banking product in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which collectively account for 80.8%.
The Americas contribute 10.8%, while Asia-Pacific represents 8.4%.
This geographic distribution demonstrates the group’s substantial European foundation alongside its international presence. Its activities across multiple regions expose the bank to different economic conditions, regulatory environments, interest-rate cycles and client-demand patterns.
For institutional investors and wealth managers, this geographic footprint is relevant when assessing the group’s longer-term earnings diversification and exposure to regional financial markets.
DZ Bank’s decision to maintain its Buy rating keeps a positive analyst assessment in place for BNP Paribas. The bank’s diversified business model, substantial deposit and lending base, and international operating footprint provide important context for evaluating its position within the European financial sector.
Going forward, investors will need to monitor the group’s earnings performance across its principal business divisions, the development of its deposit and lending balances, and the contribution of international markets. Further analyst commentary, valuation data and financial disclosures will also be necessary to assess whether the current positive recommendation is supported by evolving fundamentals.
