Bank of America has identified Micron Technology as its top stock pick in the memory sector, maintaining a Buy rating and a price objective of $1,550. The target is substantially above the cited trading price of $877.55, although the figures represent a research valuation and a market snapshot rather than a guaranteed future return.
The firm’s positive outlook follows meetings with Micron’s senior leadership in New York and Boston, after a company webinar covering its technology and product strategy.
Bank of America analysts met with Chief Operating Officer Manish Bhatia, Chief Technology Officer Scott DeBoer, Chief Financial Officer Mark Murphy, and Corporate Vice President of Investor Relations Satya Kumar. The discussions reinforced the firm’s view that memory is becoming increasingly central to the performance and efficiency of AI systems.
Management also indicated that memory market conditions could be tighter in calendar years 2027 and 2028 than in 2026.
Bank of America’s recommendation rests on five principal considerations.
First, memory is increasingly important to AI performance and power efficiency. As AI workloads expand, memory capacity and bandwidth can influence system throughput and the cost of generating tokens.
Second, current memory specification reductions reflect supply shortages rather than declining technological importance, according to the investment thesis. The underlying argument is that greater memory availability can support more output per dollar spent on AI computing.
Third, supply chain agreements are becoming more flexible over periods of three to five years, including take-or-pay arrangements with financial commitments. These structures may improve visibility into future demand and commercial relationships.
Fourth, Micron maintains a strong technology position across high-bandwidth memory (HBM), dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), and NAND products.
Fifth, the company plans to increase capital returns to shareholders beginning December 9, according to the supplied report.
Management views memory as an increasingly critical component of AI system architecture. Current supply chain agreements cover approximately 35% of Micron’s total sales, with a target of 50% by calendar year 2030.
The company’s pricing framework reportedly includes a floor materially above previous cycle highs. If sustained, this structure could provide greater commercial visibility, although actual results will depend on contract terms, customer demand, production capacity, and market conditions.
Micron’s technology roadmap includes HBM configurations ranging from 4-high to 16-high stacks, four additional planar DRAM nodes after 1-gamma, and G11 NAND targeting more than 400 layers by late 2027.
These development plans are relevant to Micron’s competitive position as AI infrastructure requirements evolve. Execution, manufacturing yields, customer qualification, and the pace of technological adoption will remain important factors.
The supplied report states that Micron expects to generate approximately $150 billion to $200 billion in annual free cash flow during calendar years 2027 and 2028. The company also has approximately $35 billion authorized for share repurchases.
These figures represent substantial expectations for future cash generation and capital returns. However, the free cash flow outlook is a forecast rather than a reported result, and its realization will depend on industry pricing, investment requirements, operating performance, and demand.
For investors, the relationship between capital expenditure, cash generation, and shareholder distributions will be important when evaluating the durability of the investment thesis.
Bank of America’s positive view of Micron reflects the strategic importance of memory in AI infrastructure and the potential for tighter supply conditions over the next several years. Micron’s technology roadmap, longer-term supply agreements, and planned shareholder returns form the core of the investment case.
Nevertheless, the $1,550 price target should be treated as an analyst objective rather than a prediction with a guaranteed outcome. Investors should assess the valuation alongside execution risks, cyclical memory pricing, capital expenditure, and the company’s ability to meet its ambitious cash flow expectations.
