The Charles Schwab Corporation reported record financial results and continued client growth in its third-quarter 2026 business update, reinforcing managementโs confidence in the firmโs client-focused strategy. CEO Rick Wurster highlighted rising brokerage account openings, strong net asset inflows, and expanding demand for managed investing and bank lending. The results point to Schwabโs effort to deepen relationships across its platform while combining service, technology, and artificial intelligence to support future growth.
Schwab opened 1.2 million brokerage accounts during the third quarter and attracted $190 billion in core net new assets. The asset inflow figure increased 38% compared with the same period a year earlier, representing an annualized organic growth rate of nearly 6%, according to Wurster.
These figures are central to Schwabโs growth strategy because they indicate that the firm continues to attract client relationships and assets onto its platform. Managementโs โThrough Clientsโ Eyesโ strategy emphasizes the experience clients receive across service, accessibility, capabilities, and trust. Wurster said client promoter and ease-of-use scores continued to improve, providing additional indicators that the firmโs approach is resonating with customers.
Schwab reported a quarterly record of $24 billion in managed-investing net flows, while bank lending reached $72 billion, an increase of 35% year over year. Together, these developments suggest that clients are using the firm for a broader range of financial needs rather than relying exclusively on brokerage services.
For Schwab, deeper relationships can support a more diversified business model by expanding engagement across investing, advice, and banking. However, the reported figures alone do not establish the profitability of each business line or indicate how much additional revenue each contributed during the quarter. The sustainability of this growth will depend on continued client demand and the economics of the services provided.
Schwab reported $7.2 billion in total net revenues and adjusted earnings per share of $1.69, up 29% year over year. Wurster described the firmโs combination of people and artificial intelligence as a way to strengthen its ability to deliver client-focused capabilities at speed.
Management also emphasized the importance of Schwabโs diversified financial model, which it believes can support durable earnings growth across different market cycles. The business update did not quantify AI-specific savings or disclose how much the technology contributed directly to quarterly earnings. Its financial impact should therefore be assessed through future operating results rather than assumed from adoption alone.
Looking ahead, the key indicators are whether Schwab can sustain asset inflows, continue expanding managed-investing relationships, and maintain earnings momentum while investing in technology and service. For internationally diversified clients, the firmโs continued growth offers a relevant view of how a major U.S. financial platform is broadening its role in clientsโ financial lives.
