UBS is maintaining a notably constructive view of Kontoor Brands, the apparel group behind Wrangler and Helly Hansen, as the company enters a more focused phase of its corporate strategy. The Swiss bank sees substantial upside potential, arguing that the market may not yet fully reflect the underlying growth opportunity across the company’s continuing brands.
The core of UBS’s thesis is the quality of Kontoor’s remaining portfolio. Following the planned sale of Lee, management is concentrating capital and resources on Wrangler and Helly Hansen, which it views as the brands with the strongest strategic positioning and growth opportunities.
UBS has highlighted Wrangler’s continued market-share gains as an important indicator. The brand had recorded its 16th consecutive quarter of market-share gains in its core bottoms category, with share increasing by 100 basis points year over year. For UBS, that consistency provides evidence that Wrangler’s momentum is not dependent on a single quarter or isolated product cycle.
UBS also sees potential from expanding Wrangler’s distribution across markets and channels. Kontoor management has described growth as broad-based across North America, Europe and China, while also pointing to distribution expansion and stronger direct-to-consumer performance.
That breadth matters to UBS because it reduces reliance on one geography or product category. The bank’s thesis is increasingly based on sustained brand expansion rather than a temporary demand spike.
The planned Lee divestiture does create an important analytical adjustment. Kontoor’s reported continuing-operations figures will no longer include Lee, meaning comparisons with previous earnings estimates can appear weaker even as the underlying portfolio becomes more focused.
UBS previously reduced its fiscal 2026 EPS estimate primarily because of this accounting change, rather than because of deterioration in the core business. At the same time, the bank continued to emphasize the potential of Wrangler and Helly Hansen and the benefits of directing more investment toward those brands.
For HNWI investors, the important point is not simply the magnitude of UBS’s projected upside. It is the strategic reset behind the valuation thesis. Kontoor is moving toward a narrower portfolio, stronger brand concentration and potentially more efficient capital allocation.
UBS’s assessment suggests that the market may need to evaluate Kontoor less as a diversified denim company and more as a focused operator built around brands with broader international growth potential. The critical variables ahead will be whether Wrangler can sustain market-share gains, whether Helly Hansen continues expanding, and whether the streamlined portfolio produces the margin and cash-flow improvement UBS anticipates.
